Tulsi, an introduction


Tulsi, which is also known as Basil or Holy Basil, is a healing herb with rich history (almost 5,000 years) of usages shared among cultures all over the world.  It has strong aroma and a flavor that can range from peppery to astringent. It’s often combined with tea leaves, in herbal blends like turmeric and ginger and in other drinks for its healing attributes. Out of 3 natural shields “surakchyakawach” according to Vedic texts, this is the second one.

Ocimum Tenuiflorum, the name in Latin for Basil, is an aromatic perennial plant in the family Lamiacea. It is native to Indian subcontinent and widespread as a cultivated plant throughout the Southeast Asian tropics (Nepal, India, China, etc.).
Tulsi is often cultivated for religious and traditional medicine purposes, and for its essential oil. It is widely used as a herbal tea, as a base for various ayurvedic and homeopathic medicines, and has a place within the Vaishnava tradition of Hinduism. In Christian religion, Holy basil is used for various religious purposes as well.
Tulsi herbs are alkalic in nature, produce high amount of oxygen and are often referred as the symbol of love, eternal life, purification and protection.

Safety measures and precautions
